When to go to Rockport for REDS?

Im down to go. I don't have a hunting lease this year due to overpriced hunting here in S. TX but i do have a boat.

So it sounds like a good time to go. Reason I ask is because am getting pressured into a family trip down there in early October. And I already have to miss opening weekend. Just want to make sure at least the fishing will be good.

September into October is usually best to find the big schools moving around but redfishing is good year-round. Just depends who your with and where they take you. I would say a guide is not needed that time of year if you want to fish any of the passes/jetties that are open to the gulf.
