Elevated alkaline Phosphate levels...anyone else ?

After a buttload of blood vials taken and test. Doc says I have high levels of Alkaline Phosphate.

anyone else have elevated levels. If so... what did you do? they ruled out the liver. Have an appointment next week with oncologist. They think it may be bone related? who knows.

All this due to a post Glen made a while back about going to get a physical.

I got the physical... got high cholesterol, high sugar levels, had a umbilical hernia operated on. fixing to get scoped again and now this alkaline phosphate deal.

Kinda makes me wish I hadn't gone to the doctor

Everything you mentioned is correct with the Alk phos...rule out liver then bone.
Just be sure to follow thru on your appts.
Exercise & diet will assist with improving your lipids & sugar levels

Sometimes longer than that. Been there and done that for the very same thing in 2001. Now I gotta go back and have it done again .

If you had fractured a bone bone, even a cracked bone, the alk phos will be elevated. What procedure did you have done? Also, I know you said that 'ruled out' liver but what was the ALT and AST levels? I would like to see the whole lab if that is possible, I need a little more history on you...have a few questions need to be answered. Also, you say alk phos is elevated but how much? Would like to see the numbers. PM me if you want to look at it. I would just chill until you get all of the numbers back.

I tell my patients that is usually something simple for example...if I were standing by you and we heard a herd of animals run by it would probably be horses and not zebras, since we are not in Africa (although in Texas it maybe possible but I am in Arkansas so it goes over much more effective). Just remember the Lord is the great physician and "the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.."

          Take care, Lance.

The Dr.'s assistant just said it was elevated...141 I think. My procedure was a umbilical hernia repair. But that was after the initial physical when it was high, and has been high the last few blood readings. I do have a deformed hip(ball joint). But I have had that since I can remember. childhood disease.

Hip joint can do it. ANy kind of bone inflamation can lead to an elevated level. Simple bone scan can evaluate boney inflamation.

I am with Ram since a 141 isn't excessive since most labs will have 125 as the top of the reference. You are probably fine.

Don't say that. I am only in week 2 of 6. ya know how hard it is.. to not just move some thing out of the way in the garage. Now, I gots to think about how much of a strain it will cause... or if the boss is looking

the bell shaped curve is a b****. one of my im attendings forebade us from ordering labs except to confirm diagnoses, not as a fishing expedition. when you order enough labs, you are bound to find normal/healthy patients whose "normal" falls outside the range, scaring the patient, and requiring drs to chase ghosts. alk phos is such a nebulus lab, it is impossible to predict what drives it up.

I hope you guys are right. Heck, I may have always had high alk/pho levels. This may be normal for me.

Just talk to your primary care provider about a bone scan. Any other problems will show up easily. Would also save that oncology consult. I have a pt in similar situation and did a scan and had a metastatic tumor. The scan will resolve the issue.
