Your logic and rational thinking always impress me.

To pappabear: you did fine. As long as you keep your cool in front of the kids, you've got every right in the world to have an opinion on the matter, even if it goes against the coach's "agenda" (per Dale, and sounds spot on).

We talked about it all on the way home, she's good with it. I hope she keeps her head up. I've seen a lot of improvement in her this year over last and hope it continues.

I would have to ask if this was a city league team. If it is, normally players are pulled from the different teams. If it is a select team, then the girls that have been there all season should be the starters.

these guys a volunteering their time. As I've always heard, if you can do it better, then step up and do it.

On some of the upper level select teams these coaches are getting paid. Although I do not participate at games, I go out and coach them at practice. So they are not always just volunteers.

This happens all the time all over the place and it never ceases to make me madder than all get out. It isn't the kids fault, the parents who support and promote it should be scissor kicked in the back of the head!

j/k of course about actually hitting a parent but sometimes you get so mad you wish you could.

we had a similar situation. our girls in 10u went to hillsboro this week. we picked up two girls, but they only played when the other girls got hurt. the teams we played had picked up over half the girls on their team. they have played tournaments and select. we got worked over pretty good in the 2 games. i don't know why the teams even go to district. the teams we played were all star teams, they should be playing other all star teams not city league teams.

That's the way they do it now. Very few play for the love of the games. Its all about trophies now.

The only agenda that coach had, was to win the championship! In his mind he put the best 9 players on the field. Its a team game, those three girls did not loose those games on their own!

I teach and coach and I'm a parent too, so I understand how hard it is to sit back and be just a spectator, but I do it. I just wish parents would let coaches coach.

I know coaches that have one state championships and still have parents complain about why their kid did not get to play!

I suggest since you said it happened last year too that the parents make it very clear to the coach before the season starts that there will be no additions/pick-ups if the team makes the playoffs.

Its a tough job being a coach and we can't please everybody

thought was against rules to add players before playoffs?

i don't think it is an issue of letting coaches coach and parents watch. if the kids were good enough to get them to the playoffs then they should be allowed to play in the in the playoffs.

pappa bear you handled it well. We are in the playoffs right now (12u softball) and had the same thing happen, only difference is the guy that decided to voice his opinion went about it wrong. He made a big scene after he game when he should have handled it like an adult instead of in front of the kids, parents and the other team that was playing after us.

We got beat this morning because of errors, should have won. Play again tomorrow night at 6 and if we win we play again at 8.

meathunter it is not the girls at 10u that are "sluts" it is their parents who pimp them out to different teams

It's absolutely unfair to the girls who have been making practices and winning games and making the playoffs to be put on the bench by someone from another team. Any girls that are picked up should be used in case of injury or poor performance by original team members. If they had not been picked up their season would have been over anyway.
What it boils down to for me is the girls got themselves that far, as a team, they should win or lose as a team. What does that say to the girls when you make the playoffs and suddenly the coach decides he wants someone else playing. They were good enough to get that far but not good enough to get keep advancing?
