Ross, this thing works well for me. I only have one so it doesn't go in one particular bag, it goes in all of them.

Yep--I use my 1" x 42" belt sander for kitchen knives and to resharpen those from friends that are more rounded than wedge-shaped. The, I get out the Lansky-

I'm with Dustin. Been using mine over a year and won't be without it.

I have been known to use a porcelain rod to finish select knives though.

I use the work sharp for everything in the kitchen. It might now be beneficial for the knives but they are cheap (for the most part) & this is a sharpening system that I can easily operate by myself & know that I'm sharpening them correctly. Plug in, run knife thru. Done. I do have to sharpen them every month or so but it works for me.

I have had one for a few months now; it eats the tip of the blade..so I quit using it on my knives and use it for sharpening my tools - axe, shovels, lawn mower. It works well for those.

Also, one side always seems sharper than the other on my knives. I was a big fan at first, but not so much anymore.

Not really. By the time it gets the convex edge put on, it's taken a pretty significant amount of metal off. It's nothing for it to take 1/32" off. By the time you do that on both sides, you've taken away 1/16" of cutting diameter. But it's actually even more than that because it also rounds off the tip of the blade, which is where the cutting width comes from. I tried to use it to sharpen the blades on a Slick Trick Magnum (1-1/8") and basically turned it into a Slick Trick Standard (1").

Edit: I'm glad it works for some of you. Mine is basically just a machette sharpener at this point.

Round top is a technique issue. I had the same trouble at first.

As with anything - it takes a little practice to get it right. I would put a worksharp edge up against any professional sharpener out there. I have no problem sharpening most knives with a regular steel or ceramic sharpener...Heck I'll use a window edge if it is all I have available. But my Benchmade the metal was too hard to get back to factory or shaving sharp. Purchasing a worksharp solved that and now I can touch it up with just about any sharpener.

I am about to buy one of these. After researching, the Edge Pro seems to be the best system out there. Looks easy to use, and moves the stone across the blade, not the blade across the stone. There's too much error in a human to keep the exact same angle on every pass if you move the blade across the stone.

The Edge Pro system eliminates that error, as you keep the blade still. I use a similar system for sharpening my snow skis, and I get them razor sharp.

Just got the Work Sharp for Christmas. I suck at conventional methods of sharpening, the WS has been great. Sharpened all my kitchen knives the other night and have been very impressed..As far as I am concerned, I will definitely keep the WS around..

The one downside to the ws I have found is the edge doesn't tend to last but it only takes a couple minutes to get it back sharp. In may just be that I use the wrong angle. Not sure. But the sure thing is it gets my knives sharper than most were new
