    Pig Roaster questions (LaCajaChina)

I've got a family reunion coming up in a few months and wanted to do something different for everyone. I thought roasting a pig in one of these boxes would be just the thing. Does anyone know if these can be purchased in the Houston area? I've done some internet searches and can only find them online. They seem to run around $200 for the knock-offs. I'd like to go to a store and give them a look see before commiting. I was thinking that I might be able to get one at Traders Village but haven't made it out there to see. If anyone has one that they want to get rid of in the Houston or Dallas area, please let me know. Or, if you know a place that rents them, that would be great as well. C'mon green screen, I know someone out there has the answers.

    Thanks.

Might try cooking it in a pit dug in the ground. Been a while since I've done, but don't remember anything ever coming out bad.

Yeah, thought about that. Mother-In-Law would FREAK!!!

Wanted to go with a roaster box for ease of use. Plus we will be at a rental property - doubt they would want me digging up the yard.

Thanks for the offer! I think I want to have one of my own. The pics of the finished product solidifies that! And if by "leather" you mean overcooked meat, then yeah I'm the guy! Otherwise, nope, never tried that. Thanks again for the offer. The green screen hospitality never ceases to amaze me.

Now I think I know who you are talking about with the leather. I can get you in touch with him if you need something done. I just don't know his screen name on TBH. I work wiith him 4 days a week though. I had forgot about his handiwork with leather. He does fine work.

These knock-offs are what I was looking at. Apparently, you like yours. The liner is galvanized steel I think. I've heard bad things about galvanized, but have also heard that as long as they aren't subjected to a cutting torch or something similar that it's ok. Does it transfer heat well enough to maintain temperature? The aluminium is suppose to do a better job of that. Thanks for the lending offer. It was appreciated

I have looked everywhere on the internet and asked for about two years and have not found a single place in Houston that sells these. I too wanted to see one in person.

I have some plans somewhere to build your own Cajun Microwave. (basically the same thing)

PM if you'd like me to send those to you. I'll dig them up.

These are the bomb !!! but very pricey

Al Simon's Cajun Microwaves are charcoal heated Louisiana cypress roasting boxes used for cooking whole roast pigs or other pieces of large meat outdoors.

In my research I also found these guys over in Lake Charles. Not that far of a drive from Houston.

Thanks for the links. I think I'm gonna go walk around Traders Village this weekend and see if I can find one. I've been watching Craigslist and eBay. I even stopped in at the Fiesta on I45 this morning. You can buy a tuxedo and a set of tires there, but no pig roaster!
