He's been tagging for several months. Mike said he's tagged about 70 fish so far and is going to look tomorrow and see if he can find a fish with these dimensions and where it was tagged at compared to where I caught it. He is going to send me a PDF copy of their tagging brochure and I'll post it here so other people will know what to look for if they harvest one with a tag. It is my understanding they are using the same tags on the Trinity.

Very interesting. Apparently the tagging program just started, since he's only been tagging gar for a few months. Are the tags numbered so they can ID each fish? I wonder why they are not tagged to make it more obvious that it is a tag so people will look for the number.
Did he say how he is catching them to tag them? Is it a shocking program, netting them or rod and reel? What did he say about the gunshot wound?

Tagging program has been going since March. They are using gill nets to catch the Gar. Mike was not impressed with the condition of the tag to be 3+ months old. Each fish has two tags. Here is a copy of the flyer.
I caught this Gator Gar last Summer while showing Mike (TPWD Biologist) how we fish for them.
