A new In n Out opened here in Arlington in THE MOST prime area of the city. For weeks, it was packed. Now, it's no more busy than your average fast food burger joint.
Apparently, a bunch of folks like myself were curious. They waited their one time and were extremely disappointed and won't go back.
The problem is expectations. People know of In n Out and think its the greatest burger in the world and stand in line for 3 hours to get one. That sets you up for nothing but disappointment. I'll say it (quietly so no else hears) I'm originally from CA (been gone over 7 years so don't shoot me ) and In N out is not the best burger you'll ever have. It is intended to be fresh, good and cheap. You should never go to one thinking you are getting the best burger around. you should go there thinking you are going to one of the best FAST FOOD burgers (not burgers in general) around, but again, that is all preference. You just can't go there with high expectations, the same way you can't go to McD's with high expectations. I personally love the fact that its all fresh ingredients and affordable, but won't stand in line for one and can feel my arteries clogging as I'm eating it. That being said, still better than any other fast food burger.
I ate at one while in DFW last week....line out the door, cars wrapped around the lot for the drive thru....
I don't know what the big deal is...it was a good burger but not sure it's worth all that waiting....I'd go there before mickey d's or booger sling
So people can check in on Facebook that they are at the In and Out Burger. Then some of their friends, that secretely think the place is just ok, will comment about how they were there a few days ago and say how awesome it was. Kinda like coffee snobs or people that eat sushi

the ones i went to in CA were good but that was in 1999-2000. i wasn't disappointed with the taste of the burger.
what i do remember was that i asked for mayonnaise on mine and the order taker looked at me and said "What's mayonnaise"? I almost poo'd in my pants when he asked me that as i didn't know they had their own sauce.
i try not to eat fast food whenever possible, sometimes it has to happen, but I try to stay away from all of them and eat out of the home kitchen/pit/fryer
