If you can get him talking about fishing....ask him about his Alaskan halibut - and see if he is willing to toss together a beer batter fry for some fresh caught fish filets? All that's required is......you have to bring the beer! We fished Cape Hatteras together...back in the day.

Crab-N is another excellent seafood restaurant that I frequent with fresh fish filets. After a day on the water, I'll haul a few baggies of filets there for an evening fry. Their Cajun batter seasoning is unbelievable on fresh flounder filets!!!! Some of the locals think it's a bit too much YACHT CLUB styled for their taste....nothing but a thing for this old Coastie!

Boiling Pot is great for steamed shrimp and iced cold beer....if it's hot out...wait till after sundown to go or...you're gonna wanna drink a lot of cold beer

Charlotte Plummer's is also a nice little place to eat as well....a great place for several couples to chill at the end of a long day on the water.

Dang small world lol jd is a goodGuy
LOL! Yes and what's real ironic....where I work in San Antonio......JD's first cousin works there as well and another guy, semi-retired fella with a place in Rockport -goes fishing there every week, knows JD and eats there literally every week with his wife! LOL! We didn't know any of us frequented JDs place till I mentioned Rockport one day...and JD's name was our common theme LOL!

JD and I were stationed in California together back in 1983 then we worked together from 1986 - 1989 in Virginia. Our wives knew each other...he met my kids.....we had cook-outs, parties....the usual military gatherings as well as trips to Cape Hatteras chasing fish. JD got out of the Coast Guard and moved North, remarried and started a business....I went south to Florida....roll the clock forward another 18 years and we stumbled into each other in Rockport. I went there fishing with a group of folks, guide...the entire Rockport experience...we were rolling from Aransas Pass north to Rockport when I spotted his place. I mentioned to those rolling with me...."I bet I know the guy that owns this place........let's stop in and see if JD is here?" We stopped....went in and sure enough....JD was cooking and complaining about not finding a good reliable cook to help him run the kitchen so he could have a day off during the week etc etc etc LOL!

              Small world indeed!

We were there last week. Couldn't wait to get out of there, just nasty and flies buzzing around everywhere. Won't go back!

Stevie Lou's BBQ is on 35 headed toward Copano Bay Bridge from Rockport. He has good grub and supports a local veterans charity called Rockport For Veterans. I believe he donates an rv pad for free use for OIF/ OEF veterans.

I've never understood the crowd that loves Charlotte Plumbers, I know its been there the longest and its suppose to be the cool place to go, but their food comes off a sysco truck. Its not fresh and its not made there. They do get alot of business, which always makes me wonder how succesful a real sea food place in town would be.

i agree that nothing there is THAT good, but decent, hit or miss, type places. JD's is usually good. big fisherman is usually ok but its like a really greasy, big, long johns silver's. Latitude is pretty good. Shempy's is also hit or miss, but when its a hit, its real good.
