Dumbest 300RUM question you've ever heard, but can probably relate to.

I've finally talked my buddy into going on an Elk hunt in Colorado. We booked a guided hunt with an outfitter I've used before and we drew our 1st week/rifle tags and are now counting down the days. Only issue - My buddy doesn't have a rifle any bigger than a .270, and even though that could be sufficient, you all know we can't turn down an excuse to buy another rifle.

I've got the Remington Sendero 300 RUM w/ a Holland muzzle brake and love it. But he doesn't want to get the exact same rife (Sendero), but does want the 300RUM. What's a great stock 300 RUM rifle - other than the Sendero and in the same $1000 ballpark?

Remington 700 XCR, XCR II, XHR, and the new SPS Long Range. These are all synthetic stocked remingtons offered in 300RUM that should fit the bill.

Mine is the plain jane synthetic stock that came with it. It works well for me I wouldn't want one with any bulkier stock than what I have. I also don't have a break on mine either. It is a pain when at the bench but in the field I don't notice the recoil.

Save the dough and go with a ballsy bullet in that 270! hate to say it but shot placement is always KING! (remarks from a bowhunter thus feel free to discount.)

I'm liking the looks of the SPS Long Range myself, but any of the ones lungbuster mentioned would fit the bill.

Get on the Remington website and look at which models the carry in the RUM. I had a stainless SPS. Tell him to make sure he puts a good break on it before he shoots it to make sure he doesn't get into flinching.

I killed my 6x6 and my boy a red stag with 270...placement is kind...140 grain bullet...do have a 300 RUM in the Sendero and lot it...only good thing about it is the heavy barrel takes some of the buck out of it..Tell him not to put a muzzle brake on it.

Why not put a muzzle break on it? Most of the people I know can't shoot a cal of that size accurate without one.
