    Computer "hot key" question ???

Just a few moments ago i had 3 programs open (up and using) Google Chrome (TBH) Microsoft Outlook and an Excel file.
I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista home Premium.

I slid my left hand up across the key board to tap on the sound button above F keys. what ever combination of keys i hit, "closed" all three programs pronto and left me looking at my desk top.
    NOT minimized, CLOSED

What combo did i hit????? that might be pretty handy to know

edit: and what is the"FN" key for???? bottom left next to the Windows key

Don't have a clue what combo of keys you hit, but GIYF (google is your friend).

Here's the answer to your question about the "FN" key--it's the function key.

FN key is used in conjuntion with turning on wifi etc. Just push and hold the FN and then hit the wifi key to turn on/off. Is the FN key blue? If so it operates everything else the same color

I have an Acer laptop and if my hand hits the mouse pad just right it is like hitting the back button when online.

I can't figure out how to do it on purpose, but I do it on accident all the time!

thanks for the FN link. just added that since i was still trying to Google for the "hotkey" combo. not finding anything that says it's possible to close multiple programs at once.
alt-spacebar-c closes the working program but the second tap asks if i want the computer to shutdown, sleep or hibernate.

          thanks

You can program hot keys to do different things. Do you have a fancy keyboard besides the basic plain Jane keyboard?

I know not to try alt-home again, while on TBH typing...... it takes you to the Home start page of browser

I think one of the F keys will close all open windows.
Open up a few things and hit the F keys one at a time.

all the F keys have symbols with them... F1 has a lock, F2 has a microphone etc.. F8 has a WiFi symbol . all sub or like a calculator 2nd.

space bar has a square and + sign in a magnifying glass but but when pressing alt space bar it only makes a drop down appear with the restore minimize close options

Alt and f4 key closes whatever window you have open, maybe that's what you did.

that could have been it!! but i must have jiggled 3 times. trying to touch the sound on button.

F11 gives a quick look at the desktop.
                      F12 opens page elements.

The windows key and the letter M will minimize all open applications.

Alt+F4 kills whatever is currently being displayed on your screen. Very useful to annoy friends.
