    2003 Dodge idiot light help!

Had my Electronic throttle control light come on yesterday, twice...Its the light with the lightning bolt in parentheses. Any idea what would cause it and how do you trouble shoot something light that? If I kill the truck and restart it its good to go.
It has the 5.7 Hemi in it. Thanks in advances!

If you don't have a scan tool go to any auto parts store and get it scanned to see what code is being set.Are there any symptoms besides the light?Stalling/rough running ect?

First time it did it, it started surging while idling and the light came on. I killed it and restarted it and it self corrected. The 2nd time i was driving and the MPH gauge waent erratic and it was running rough. I put it into neutral and restarted it and it was good to go. Thanks

I also have a 2003 dodge and i learned that you can get the code error without buying anything or going anywhere. All you have to do is get in your truck, put the key in the ignition and turn the key in the on position without starting it then back to the off position do this three times pretty fast and on the third time leave the key in the on position and the error code will be shown where your mileage read out is at, then just google the code.

My 03 does the same thing, but, without the light about every 6 months. Never got any codes.

Bill, the p0585 is a clockspring code. Meaning it can affect cruise control and horn.
The 2173 and 2106 is most likely a dirty throttle body. Be real careful with soft cloth and cleaner to clean.( they make a throttle body aresol cleaner). Data says that idle will need to be releanred with capable scan tool afterwards, But a good chance that won't be necessary.Good luck

2001 RAM 1500 does the same thing. The Dodge parts department said "you're not supposed to know about that. It does other things too but we can't tell you". I wonder if there is a sequence to clear the computer?

As a matter of fact - there is. Turn on the ignition withou starting the truck. Pull the fuse for the ECM - wait three minutes. Turn off ignition reseat fuse and error codes and idiot lights are gone.

I have an OBD2 readout unit so I can reset it with that. Best $40 investment I've made with the cost savings to DIY.

Thanks Bros...I got the codes using the Key on-off deal worked great. Truck hasn't gooned up since yesterday. Gonna clean the throttle body as suggested and see what happens! Thanks Again! I love hanging out with folks smarter than me..
