    Floating pier

The general contractor just gave me 4- 4'x8'x1' styrofoam. Do you think the 1' thick would be enough to float a pier? I could double it for a 8'x8' but a 8'x16' would be perfect. I hadn't really thought about floating one just knew I needed to redo the one I have.

That figures out to displacing lees than 5 cubic of water. I',m not sure but I beleive that is about 180 lbs of water. That means that it would float less than 180

The math on it works. I've just never seen it done. The stuff on boat docks is around 30" I'd say. But without the wave action and weight it may work fine.

If you could balance it, you could float a car on one 4'x8'x1' piece of foam. When you build your dock, just don't put any foam in the middle, only around the edges. If you put it in the middle, the dock will be tippy.

^^Good idea. The buoyancy is there. Build it 8x16 like you want, cut your sheets in half and stack in the corners

I have a really big floating pier here at my house. Bought the stro-foam from a place in Houston. Best I remember it was really cheap. Comes in 4x8x4ft thick sheets. I had them cut mine down to 2ft thick. Built each section of the pier out of treated 2x6's. Came out real nice. Probally would float a ship
