    Need input... truck accessories

I have been pondering either a headache rack ( i have had a few close calls) or a tool box.

I am worried about the tool box taking up bed space, but it would be nice to have a place besides my back seat where i could lock things up. For those that have one, do you notice the bed space being taken up?

Now, do headache racks sit right up against the glass or is there space between? I ask because the only way my 4 wheeler will fit is if it is all the way up against the glass.

Can't comment on the headache rack...I have a Tundra and the bed is small and I wanted a tool box for the same reasons and was worried about bed space. I actually found one from UWS that was only 13" at the top, its only about 10" deep but it works perfectly for what I need it for and I did not loose alot of bedspace. Because its not that deep, I can still get coolers and most stuff to fit underneath of it up against the bed so didn't really loose a whole bunch of space except towards the top of the bed where the box sits.Pics attached.

I don't know if this will make a difference or not, BUT...
That jon boat is 12' and doesn't have a trailer. I throw it in the back of the truck and strap it in. A tool box would be a hindrance to doing that. Although, you could put the boat up over the headache rack. It would be awkward but it would work.

Most headache racks that I have seen are not against the glass.
What type of truck do you have? Tools boxes come in a variety of shapes and sizes they may have a low profile smaller one for your ride.

Michael, I have the same bed and you will lose a lot of bed space. I went with 2 fender well boxes and it is much better. I got mine from these guys. http://allprotruckaccessories.com/ht...y_find_us.html

Trailer for the 4 wheeler and toolbox is the way to go. A headache rack will always be there and it will only be useful when hauling the 4 wheeler in the truck bed. Get the trailer and toolbox. Enjoy the extra storage space. And enjoy being able to just hook up the trailer and go.

I considered this because we have several trailers, but it is nice to not have to tow a trailer.

go with the eight foot bed

the headache rack will be the same distance form the glass as your bed is from your truck. Then you have to consider it's depth.

If you have ever sat in the bed of a truck on a bumpy road you will see how much the bed/cab area flexes - you have to have that gap in between.

you can only put a headache rack on a truck if you are over the age of 65.

No headache rack for me, but I've had a Weatherguard box in my trucks for 12 or so years and I'll never not have one. I like the over the rail personally because you can still slide long boards, plywood, yard tools, or even corn and such under it. I'll probably do the over the rail that is a little less tall than this one next time.

Inside the box makes for a great place to store shotguns in a soft case and other important items when going duck or dove hunting because they are out of site if you need to go in a store and they protect from weather if you need more cab room.

Don't skimp....Get a Weathergard or a RK and they will outlast your truck.

Plus they allow plenty of room for ducks, decoys, waders, guns, shells etc.....(shameless pics of my truck...I don't have many that show the truck box..)

No. Do not put a headache rack against your glass or flush with the cab!!
First big bump you hit and you won't have a back glass and you'll gain a dent.

Put it on the edge of the bed then (if you have a long bed) you can throw the toolbox in front of it.

If its a short bed I'd just go with a headache rack.
Toolbox if you use your truck for work
