Been a long haul for my wife and I. 5 years ago on Mothers Day she was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, and after several surgeries and 3 rounds of CHOP chemotherapy, she went into remission. This all happened when we were living 1000 miles from family in North Iowa.
Forward to this past January, and she went in for her check up with the oncologist. This was the only doctors appointment I had ever missed with her since this happened 5 years ago, and it would happen to be the one that her doctor told her that her cancer was back. She has been in the hospital in Baylor Grapevine and Baylor Dallas since Valentines Day, and has endured more than one person should ever have to. Three rounds of BEAM chemotherapy, 3 surgeries, countless tests, and all the while, just as strong as she can be. I could cut my hand off and never complain to her about my pain, as I have seen her go through so much more.
She is currently admitted for a bone marrow transplant. They finished with the transplant chemo (which is basically like getting a years worth in 6 days) and today she is resting. Tomorrow, she will recieve the first half of 6 million healthy stem cells, and in a way, it will be her new "birthday".
We have a strong faith in God, and a strong neighborhood, family, and friend network helping us with everything from taking care of our dogs and yard, to helping us watch after our three daughters. There are many up here on the 7th floor that will never leave this place, so we are fortunate, but it still saddens me because I see what I see up here daily.
This site has been somewhat of an escape for me since Feb. Through everyones stories, pictures, and posts, it helps sometimes to escape for a while. I thank everyone for that!
Wendi and I have big plans for when she gets through this, and are counting the days. Thank you for providing such as good website for me to spend countless hours on!
