When you get in the door you will make pretty good money tattn' roughnecks up on your days off. LOL! Not sure how old you are but Im 33 and I wouldnt wanna be roughneckin. Gona take you a while to get to driller......3-5 years and thats still out in the weather. Get in and look for a way out! Mud Engineer is what I do and love it. Easiest job on the location. Call Newpark Drilling Fluids down in Corpus and apply, I dont have a contact for you down there but they are hiring guys off the streets.

      Lee,

Go offshore and work your way up. Good pay, good benefits for your family (medical, dental, vision), state of the art high tech deepwater drilling rigs, and the recovery (post Macondo Moratorium) is well underway. Offshore (deepwater) tends to be less cyclical than land as well. The pay scales are higher too. You will be served 4 meals per day (all you can eat), have a nice state room, have your bed made for you and your clothes washed daily, and it wont cost you a dime. You need to be prepared to work a 3 week on and 3 week off schedule. Also, you cant spend any money while you are at work! In my opinion, lots more advantages to working onshore. Try Transocean, Ensco, Diamond Offshore, and Noble Drilling first.

Why not move to an area that will support a more stable tattoo career?

I have applied to most of these places and will go to Noble on friday. My question is, do they hire off the street with no experience? My contact is for inshore work but he just moved to a new company and won't be able to help. Just looking for advice and opinions.

I would think Dallas or Ft. Worth would be much better purely on size/population alone
