    Narcolepsy Help?

About a year ago I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy. I was put on Ritalin first but it wasn't strong enough. We tried different medicines and I ended up on 3 different pills every day (two of them twice a day). One of them was essentially Meth and it made me really itchy and unable to sleep at night.

I did some research and chose to treat it "naturally." I was a coffee addict so I weened myself off of that, started drinking alcohol less (my husband would laugh at that one), and ate meat only at night. It has gotten a whole lot better but I still suffer from "sleep attacks" and "sleep paralysis."

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

I drink Advocare Spark (HUGE fan, SUPER tasty!) and it helps but if I leave it in my glass too long (leave residue for ~24 hours) it makes my glass permanently smell bad.

Any thoughts? I'm considering removing gluten from my diet?

    Thanks!

I wish I had some help but I don't. It sounds terrible.

i don't have a clue on treatment (Rx: or OTC drugs) .... pretty sure Narcolepsy is a neurological disorder

since H-town has a HUGE medical community, I would research and find the Premier physician who is tops in the field of Narcolepsy

have you reached out to local support groups in the area ?

change of diet and behavior modification are ways to deal with the symptoms

I know if your driving and having a problem. Stop and get you a bag of sunflower seeds. Eating those keep you busy. You will stay awake.
Done this several times after working a 12 hour night shift. Then leave from the parking lot driving 7-1/2 hours west with 3 to 4 stops max.

ask your doctor about either Provigil or Nuvigil....my brother has prescribed it for a couple of his patients that have narcolepsy, and drive long stretches at a time....be very careful with the stuff

Have you tried meditation or yoga?

Also, some people with narcolepsy find the trigger is heart problems or air passages disfunctional.

Make sure you get 8 hours of sleep every night and try going to bed and getting up at the same time every day. I have found that I need to be in bed by 9:30 every night (even weekends) and up at 5 every morning, I sleep better and have more energy during the day. I actually have my cell phone notify me that it is 8:45, so it is time to get ready.

I got a whole lot of slams when I signed up to be a distributor but haven't tried any. I'll try it out today!

Try the strawberry, I think its the best. I tried the fruit punch one when they sent me my kit but I'm hooked on Strawberry.

I don't have any treatments but wanted to express my sympathy for what has to be a tough thing to deal with! Good luck- I hope you find some effective treatment!!
