Can you use a climbing tree stand on a palm tree?

So I have 5 huge palm trees in my backyard and they all really need to be trimmed.
Also they are shedding all these seeds in the pool and Im tired of cleaning it. When it's windy out it looks like it is snowing.

I really don't want to pay someone a couple hundred bucks to do it. And with the pool and the landscaping trying to balance on a ladder with a 15 ft pole saw doesn't sound fun.

So I was thinking about using my buddies lone wolf sit and climb to climb up about 15 feet. The trunk is a good size but I don't know If it would work to well on a palm tree or even attaching a harness to the tree.

    Any suggestions?

I use my climber to climb oak trees. I do not see any reason it would not work. However I do not know how much damage ot would do to the bark of the tree.

I'm not really worried about the damage to the bark it is just the old starting point of all the leaves it's ever grown.

So I'm more worried about it being able to grip. Sliding down the tree and having a run in with all the big thorns would really ruin my day.

Not worried about the stand... Worried about you falling out of it after getting too much sun and drinking too many fruit drinks with Rum. What exactly are you hunting from a palm tree... Women usually prefer to know if you are taking pictures...

Good luck with this chore and let us know how it turns out.

I own a tree service and hate trimming Mexican Fan palms i have to climb. You may have just come up with a great idea that will make it easier and safer! I don't own a climber.....but i'm going to buy one now to try your idea out. The only concern i would see is if the old frawns are not secure and it causes the stand to shift. If you do it, have your safety harness tied in the whole time as you ascend.

I've dealt with these trees, pony up and spend the cash or live to regret it. I'll take the chainsaw and drop them on the ground before climbing and trimming another one.

                  Just your friendly warning

That's the base. I don't think I'm going to try it with that stand. The only one I have used had a motorcycle chain that wrapped around the tree then slid into the arms. That belt on a palm tree doesnt give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

I do think with the right modifications it could work. Maby sharpen the teeth a bit so they grip into the tree a little more. Seems safer then spikes on your boots and a linemans belt with a chainsaw hanging off your belt.

i've seen them climbing those trees like a telephone pole (foot spikes and rope) so I would think if you can get the climber strap around the tree it should be ok

If the dead skirt on your palms is old and heavy be careful!!! The entire thing can cut loose and slide down the trunk. Had it happen to me once but I was single roping up it on ascenders and it slid right by me.

Don't trust a palm tree. I have seen some nasty thing come down those things.
