Let's Talk Wade Fishing in Port A

The family is heading down to Port A this friday for a long weekend and we all want to try to do a little wade fishing and flounder gigging!

Anyone have any tips or places to go they can suggest?

North jetty with live shrimp, croaker,or mullet. Never really gigged over that way but the cuts/passes behind mustang island should have some flounder in them...at least they did last week.

I wonder if there are any guides that can take a guy flounder gigging. I used to do that as a kid.

Not in Port A but some really good/easy wade fishin for trout/flounder/red and black drum is in Oso bay. You can go behing the TAMUCC campus. Or you can fish the Packery flats.

BIL (Tilladaddy) found one for $650 per night or something like that!

There are going to be a few kids, teenagers and of course old kids giving it a go so i am fairly certain that we all could not fit on a flounder gigging rig!

Where is this packery channel/flats everyone keeps refering too?

Head towards corpus on state highway 361. Packery flats are on the right side just before you get to the packery bridge coming from port a. I have gigged flounder on both sides of the channel.

                I finally googled it!

I had no idea there was another channel into CC. I guess they built this in the last 10-20 years.

                  Capt Dan the flounder man....

one of the best flounder guides... He used to be a commercial flounder guy, and now does charters.

Also if you want to DIY I would walk the Aransas pass channel along the highway between port a and aransas pass. Jason Slocum

The road between Aransas Pass and the ferry is the only place I ever thought of as I have never been very adventurous when there and always have gone offshore!

We will try this area for sure!

How about any fishing tips such as bait and how to rig? Again, I am new to this type of fishing!
