    Beware Trampoline Owners

Wow is all I have to say, Just wanted to give others heads up if you didn't know....

So last year, probably end of summer/beginning of fall, one of my wife's friends who she teaches was moving. She asked my wife if we wanted this trampoline they just got. We have an 8 year old son so she of course said yes and thank you, our son will love this.

    Fast forward....

2 weeks ago I get a letter in the mail stating:

    "Hello,

Your home insurance policy will be cancelled effective July 1, 2012 due to reason:

    Trampoline

Thanks for being a valued customer!"

I was pretty angry to say the least. Called up my agent and pretty much said "WTH?"

She said "Yea most insurance companies are doing this now. You can't own a trampoline, pit bull, or doberman pinscher"

I said "Wow, I had no idea. This was given to us for free and I'm not trying to lose my Home insurance over a bouncy toy in my backyard. What do I need to do to fix this?"

She said "Get rid of the trampoline, take photos for proof that it was removed, and you and your wife will need to give us a notarized, written document stating you have removed the trampoline and will never own a trampoline again"

I do all of this that day and run it up to her office.

    Fast forward to today......

    "Hello,
I turned in the documents you gave me a few weeks ago and policy has been renewed. Your rate has now gone up $1027.00.

    Thank you!"

Are you kidding me? Shopping for new home insurance!!!

Hopefully this will help someone else out....

Man talk about some stuff! We have one at the house that never gets used, I will have to tell my Dad. Mine got cancelled the other day due to being in a high risk area.

^^^^ This? My folks have had a trampoline for years that my kids play on and a pool. Never had any issues such as this. Insurance folks have been crawling all over their place since the past 2 hurricanes and their remodel.

          Swimming pools will be next!

I see this from time to time. A lot of insurance companies will do inspections and if they see a trampoline, they will not be happy. Pm me if you need a quote.

wow - makes me wonder what they would do if they saw an archery target in the backyard.

I have an independent Insurance agent that my wife's family has used for over 20 years. She is in the process right now of finding me a new insurance company.

The particular company in question was Imperial Fire & Casualty

That is messed up. How'd the insurance company even find out about the trampoline?

One of the first things I said to her was "Why is there someone in my backyard?"

She said they do Aerial photos of all their customers or something like that.

All this was just to raise your rates.

All thanks to a litigious society. Some home owner probably got sued by a friend's parent whose kid fell off of their trampoline and cracked his noggin and now the insurance companies are running scared. Better drop everyone who has a two story house in case a kid was to fall down the stairs.
