    Backyard dog run idea's????

Ok, we have 3 outside dogs. A mutt, a boxer, and German shepherd, and they have torn up our backyard. We already have a fenced off part, a little bit more than 1/4 of the yard. Just gotta get a gate for it. But just wanting some ideas of making the dog run better for them. They spend most of their time outside, and we do plan on starting to take them out more, to the park etc, and I am going to start running with my GSD. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions..

Oh. And it's pretty much your regular city lot, not a huge back yard but ive seen a lot smaller ones in the city though..

Pics of mine below. 2 runs 20X5. There is a gate that divides the two. I can open that gate and create 1 40X5 run. I also have 2 gates that I can add and make four 10X5 runs. I have an underground leaching system as well. I scoop the solids and spray the rest down the drain. I use a UV blocking kennel cover over half of each run. I also add a 25 gal water tub to each run in the summer for the dogs to play in. All in all - this design has worked out well. On a short term basis, I've housed 7 dogs in this set up. It handles 4 with ease.

      Here's mine:

That looks really good. What kind of dogs you have in there and how much time do they spend? I'm assuming by your name their shepherds..

German Shorthaired Pointers. They are in there full time. Out to exercise or hunting trips.

Sounds like your thought process is useless... Someone better put ya down.
                Now poof be gone.

Anyways, I'm Jeremy's wife... So... I can give a little more insight...
As for the dogs, they come inside at night, are out during the day while we work. The backyard isn't Torn up from them specifically, but our house sits at the bottom of a hill, if it rains the yard floods. Dogs have to go out and use the bathroom. Therefor the grass was dead on one side of the yard and then it dried up big time now there's cracks. (typical, I assume) we already have a Dogrun. However we would like ideas how to make it better. Would it be best to put down rock pebbles over sand? Or leave as grass. Don't want them going to the bathroom on it and killing the grass only in that area, (having just ground dirt) we'd like for it to look nice, as well be comfortable for the dogs. Our boxer and mutt are very laid back the GS is hyper and that's why he said if we keep them in the dog run (instead of having run if the yard as they do now) she would have to be exercised differently bc the space wouldn't be enough.
I will post pictures. The dogs have run if the yard because the boxer broke the gate. So we are going to have to get a chain link gate, since the wooden one didn't work out. Although the rest of the run is wood and they don't break out.
There are post at the bottom, bc at the time we also had a Boston terrier in there that would come out the bottom. (see pics)
Thanks for the replies that actually help, and not your personal pointless opinions. (:

You have a nice size lot. If you can do a concrete slab I would highly recommend it. Then you could sit a chain link or panel kennel on top of it. TSC in Burleson has both styles in stock you could look at. They are pricey though, so is the slab. Really works well during rainy season to keep them out of the mud.

I'd love to be able to do that, but I think it's a little too much for our budget right now. I'm thinking sand and pebbles.. Thanks for mentioning TSC though. I haven't even thought about them. I'll be sure to check them out.
