    School me on hog hunting

So, my wife said I can do whatever I want on Father's day. So, I want to go hog hunting, but have never really been. I've got a ground blind, my bow, my 30-30, and my .40. All I need to know is what, when, and how to get set for it. Thanks.

First of all, are there hogs in your area? That's a fairly important first step

      That does help

If you have pig traffic it's easy to get them in if you put down the right yummy's for 'em.

Braz means corn. They love the stuff. You don't need to 30-30. Just your bow and arrows some corn and an area that has pigs.

If you can get out there beforehand, pour out a bag of corn at a wallow or trail intersection with lots of tracks and hair. Do it ASAP if you can, otherwise just wait till your hunt. Pigs usually need a day or two to find corn, but same day sets can work. Good luck! Shoot LOW and tight to the shoulder, much more so than you do on a deer. Slightly quartering away is the best shot.

Where about is Josephine - If you were closer to San Antonio I could help? We have alot of hogs and not enough arrows to go around.

Ya'll have them up there in NB? I live in St. Hedwig and they come and go from time to time.

Josephine is NE of Dallas. It will be strictly bow, just mentioning what other items are in my arsenal.

There are hogs where I'll be going. I was just wanting some ideas on a good time of day and how to get it set up in regards to corn throwing. The only issue is that there are cows there too, so I'm sure the corn would be taken by them before the piggies have a chance.

Well, not happening tonight. Running a fever now, and not hog fever, and this one won't be cured by "more cowbell". I guess I'll try next week. Gives me some time to prep an area I guess.

Best nose in the woods. If you hear them growling near you, they smelled you.

Pack it up and go to another location.

Leave the 40 at home. Itll get you in trouble. The 30-30 however is bad news for a hog. Other than my bow, its my close quarters hog stopper of choice. 150's or 170's your choice. As far as the bow, its not a drt hog stopper. But i enjoy being charged. . Alot!!!!

The best time to hunt hogs is at night. If you don't have feeders going, I would go and corn the roads for two days before the hunt and then on the 3rd day corn the road again and hunt from just before dark and through the night. You should have several spot and stock chances this way. You will need a good light to do this unless you do it on a full moon but it will take some practice to get your set up just right for shooting on a full moon with no light. Cows wont eat the corn as long as you don't put it in piles. If you can't corn the roads, find some spots around water holes that the pigs have been wallowing in and corn around them for a couple of days prior to the hunt.
