Anybody have any home remedies for this. I have a pain in my lower left side, I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis, I know its what it is flaring up. Just get tired of going back to the doctor, all they do is try new meds. And honestly tired of taking meds from doctors. I have not eaten anything I am not suppose to, just having a flare up, a light dull pain every now and then, just tired of them giving me meds that take weeks to start working and the pain quits way before then, kind of a waste of time to me.

been there. that pain is an infection pocket. the only meds i had were Cipro and Flagel (Metronidazole) for 10 days until the infection was done with. when i tried to squeak by mine without the Dr. i fasted first day and then ate lots of yogurt. basically tried to flush the blockage piece off the spot. rarely worked.
I just had the surgery last November to remove 8" of lower colon. Best move i made in the six years i had it.
risky if you have had several bought's in the last year. that spot gets weaker and weaker with each time.

A fried's wife has Diverticulosis (... "itis" is the inflammation part) and her bouts are pretty much gone. She cannot eat anything with seeds, nuts, or grains. When she does, she and everybody around her pays for it ... if you get my drift. If you don't change your diet, you could lose part of your colon as others have.
On the other hand, IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome is another matter. Stress and diet triggers it.
Web MD has some good info. So does the Maoy Clinic publications. Good luck and may God bless.

Yes it is bad stuff. I had it a didn't know it until I had a pain so bad I thought someone stabbed through me from front to back with machete. Make a long story short I was 42 and after four days of high fever I was told that I have a 50/50 chance of making it due to infection from becomming septic. I spent 33 days in the Methodist hospital On serious anibiotics before having a colon resection. My colon had actually ruptured and I didn't know it. They took out a foot. No warning signs at all before the initial pain hit me. Get fiber and Stay AWAY form nuts, small seeds Of any kind and popcorn until you get it fixed. Don't play with this stuff.
Pm me if you needmore info

I have it along with IBS and mild gastritis. I had to give up a lot of foods I liked. Nothing with small seeds, corn, real spicy food and alcohol. Every time diverticulitis flairs up it usually is an infection and 10 days of Cipro to clear it up. Doctors say mine is not bad enough for surgery yet! Take daily meds now and have not had an episode in 2 months.

Diverticulosis is the term for the pouches off of the colon and diverticulitis describes inflammation and infection of at least one of the pouches. There are no home remedies to treat actual acute diverticulitis. You will need antibiotics. We generally give both Cipro and Flagyl to cover both gram negative and anaerobic bacteria. There are other meds that can be substituted depending on patient allergies. If the attack is really bad then hospital admission is usually required for IV antibiotics and IV fluids and we usually won't let you eat for a while. There really aren't any great preventive measures. We still give people the don't eat nuts and seeds lecture, but in reality I don't think it matters one bit. Best thing to do is drink plenty of fluids, take a fiber supplement daily, and use a stool softener once or twice a day. Hope this helps.
