Has anyone bought a piece of land from one of those chopped up ranches around Rocksprings. If so whats your opinion of them for hunting.

    Thanks n51

Good. Anthrax pops up from time to time out that way, but the terrain is awesome.

My dad bought 60+ acres out there several years ago. Not bad hunting just for meat but the deer there seldom get mature. From on of his stands I can see about 5 or 6 other stands within a half mile radius Lots of gunshots opening weekend and thanksgiving. The axis are a plus and the more you feed and put out water the more you will see.

Hunted on 2400 ac 5 miles east of Carta Valley with some nice deer and in 2008 the place 5000 ac to the north of us was sold in 30 ac plots and by 2009 no deer left after Thanksgiving older than a yearling left alive. Hated to leave the place, but no deer no hunting. sure messed up a good thing.

going to look at a 100 acre plot. I have hunted one out there before and got a deer but I wouldnt want the one we hunted. It had about 5 acres flat on top and the rest was hills and valleys so steep you had to have an atv.

I hunt a little place like what your talkin about. It all depends on your neighbors. I've only seen the guy across the street so as of now, I haven't had a problem. I've seen axis, WT, audad and black buck. I'm heading back in 3 weeks to try for an axis...

Lameduck has a chunk of ground out there, 300 acres or so. He's be a good guy to talk to.

Hunted a place on 83 about 10 miles from garvins store like this. We were the very last ranch about 11 miles off the road. It was only 80 acres. There were tons of people shootin every thing that walked out there. Lots of theft too. Hunting wasnt good at all. I killed a pig, 2 deer, an axis, sika and saw some fallow, cow elk and tons of turkey. I killed all my animals sitting all day and hunting hard. Very beautiful but the population of hunters out weighs animals thats for sure!

Well we looked at 3 places. My son is the one looking to buy. I was along for opinions. The first looked great for hunting but I don't think you could live there since it was 18 miles down a county road with bump gates and low water crossings. Hunting oportunities looked great though. 2nd place was more my liking. 6 miles from Rocksprings, 1 mile off highway to the gate and all of it was accessable on foot. It was just 60 acres so hunting success on that one would depend on the neighbors I guess. The 3rd place was for young guys who don't realize how easy it is to die. It took 30 to 40 minutes to get to the place and 4WD to get through the last two miles to the camp.
I don't own anything that could get me there and at my age I could never go alone since one accident and I'd be dead before anyone found me. That said there is a lot of spectacular property out there for reasonable prices. Thanks for all the input.
