Weed Eater string keeps breaking - need a better solution

When i edge the yard, the weed-eater line keeps breaking. i have the head attachment that let's you use small strips of line {abnout 10" long} that you feed into the head and then replace when they are worn out. I think the string I cut the pieces from is .095 thick. I was thinking that steel fishing leader might be a better option. Does anyone have a suggestion?

What kind of line is it. If its just the cheaper weed eater brand line its going to do that. Get a better commercial grade line and it lasts alot longer. The red line at WM is some of the toughest Ive seen.

Either your string is rotten or it's just cheap. I had the exact same problem. Bought new string and problem solved.

This was my thought. Get some good quality line.

Also, you might consider a head that you wind the string onto. Then you just bump it to extend the line.

Yep. Echo 0.095 commercial is fantastic. Its not round, its square.

Also, be sure your weedeater head stll has the metal grommets where the line feed through the head. If those are gone, they can damage your string.

DO NOT USE WIRE !!! I had that bright idea once when I was younger. after about 1 minute us use I had a piece of wire 2 inches long stuck in my face just below my eye.

Buy good string and keep it out of the sun when not in use

I would replace your head with a head that you can wind line into. If you have a commercial grade trimmer i would bump your line up to .105 and if not stay with the .095. I would also go with quality line. Echo crossfire is decent line and is readily available.

I use the echo stuff and it's good! I can get 3 uses out of it but change it out every other mow. Makes my edging easier.

And the heads that hold the string are junk. At least the one echo has

Someone told me this a long time ago and it works!
Keep your spool of line in a small bucket of water it keeps the line from being brittle

I put the same type head on my wead eater because winding the double line was just too dad gum complicated. I went to the lease with a buddy and was just cutting .096 from his large spool...I found that those heads don't work with that line...it is designed to break as it cuts and the cut line designed for that head wears from the cuttin end inward. So go back to the line designed for the head and the breakage stops.
