    mechancical bh question

can you shoot mechanicals into a block target without messin them up???? im gona get soem but i dont want to mes em up

From my experiance, MOST mechanicals will not last several shots into a target. The blades will usually bend (making it hard to get them to close correctly) or even break after several shots.

The best thing to do, in my opinion, is to shoot the exact weight field tip for practice. And, the longer the field tip (closest to the length of the MBH) works better for front of center similarity, especially at longer distances.

You might "sacrifice" 1 BH to practice w/along w/the field points to ensure grouping w/both types. I have also found that replacing the blades on them is barely worth the time, hassell, and money.

If it is a quality mechanical, it should hit the same as your field tips.

    Good luck w/it..........

I wouldn't. Mechs are kinda fragile but they WILL shoot true. I dont even reuse them once shot. But the ones I use are pretty cheap. Some heads like rage or grim reaper sell extra blades.

i wouldn't shoot one in a target ever, shoot a field tip and the bh will be right beside it. some mech. bh comp. will send you a practice tip just like the real thing.... like the rage

You can tie the blades shut with dental floss so the BH won't open on impact. Wrap the floss where to o-ring would normally be and secure it with several wraps and a couple of knots. I've used this method with good results.

Echo what everyone said.... Don't shoot mechanicals into a target. You'll just break them and mess up your target. I've never tried the dental floss idea that cwill uses, but it sounds like a good one.

            Best of luck,
            Edward

With NAP Spitfires you can buy practice blades that don't open. These will also shoot the same as the NAP Scorpions. Some othe mechs have practice blades too.

The dental floss trick works for me. It won't wear out your target as fast and saves the razor edge on the bh.

I shoot Grim Reapers. They shoot through a 55 gallon metal drum with them. I think they will handle a target just fine. I have one that I shoot into a target all the time and it has'nt broke or bent yet................

Rage, you won't be sorry and they come with a practice head.
