    Starter Bow.....Suggestions?

I'm leaning towards a good used Matthews on eBay, etc. but wanted to get y'alls feedback. It's not really something I just want to dabble with considering I've already paid for the bow only lease for next season and I'll be investing in pop-ups, feeders, etc., so I thought I might as well go with one of the big names vs. going with a cheaper bow and then having to spend the money on a Mathews anyway.

What do y'all think? Any input is appreciated!

You know I think I would buy a used Mathews and I will tell you why. I think it was a while back but Richard who is the Man at the Bow Zone here in Spring Texas said that he can get parts for almost any Mathews bow from way back. Not many bow manufactures carry parts for some of their older bows but he claims he can from Mathews. So you might be able to pick up a sweet bow for a good price. Even if you had to change out the modules you might make a 28" bow into a 30" draw length for a great price. Anyway something to think about.

Whatever you do, get something pretty good. The value you get from bowhunting (not to mention the rushes) far exceeds the money you spend on your equipment. You'll be glad you did. I shoot a 4 year old Mathews and it's been worth every penny. Having said that, there are a lot of good bows on the market today.

What's your budget for the whole setup? Bow, rest, sight, stabilizer, quiver, arrows (12) and a release?

I've budgeted approx. $800 for the bow that's ready to shoot. I had to be honest with myself in case I found a used one I really liked but that cost a little more!

            Thanks for the replies, fellas!

You should have no problem finding one for 800 bones. I shoot a 2005 mathews switchback and have no intentions mof buying a new bow for at least three more years. I see them fully rigged out going for about five six hundred all the time seems like. Just shoot different ones and see what you like. Lots of used bows on archerytalk.

Me personally, I would not spend the money on a used mathews/hoyt/bowtech. If I am going to spend 800 on a used one, I will save a few more dollars and get one WITH a warranty.

I have had 3 warranty issues on my bows and the company has warranted it everytime no questions asked. That is worth the money if you ask me

                    Buy a new one!!

The new Mission bows made by Matthews are priced in that range. The bottom of the line is about $339 list, and add everything and you're below $800- for a new bow.

Your better financial bet is to find somebody who buys a new bow every year and will sell his older one fully rigged, cheap.

I'd avoid buying internet or catalog, I try to support the local guy who you'll being asking for help later on.

Parker bows sold at Cabela's have a package deal...sights and everything ready to shoot out of the box. They are precise, very smooth bows. Then when you buy from Cabela's a great customer service. I ordered some extra stuff from Parker and they are fast and great. Ordered new strings and cables after a couple of years, I like them. There are tons of mfgs out there and brands, they are all good otherwise they would not stay on business.
