Does anyone here have experience with this one? My wife has talked me into doing this one this year in November. 60 miles over 3 days. I am a little nervous about it and was hoping to find someone on the GS who might have done it before or maybe even find someone else doing the 3 day in Dallas this year also?

don't take my word on it though. Here are 3 sites to check out.

Yes, you are correct about having the option to not walk if you don't raise the funds. I left out that part accidentally. It is still odd to me that they would prohibit someone from walking that raised ANY money for them.
I looked into the walk last year, but decided against it for the above reason. Maybe I misunderstood the credit card part, or maybe they changed it since then?
I know after I decided not to do it, one of my wife's co-workers signed up. We had that same conversation and she didn't dispute it. I'm thinking, maybe, if you don't have the funds raised but feel like you can do so by a certain date, you guarantee it with a cc? Who knows? Maybe I dreamed it up?Last edited by tgil; 06-08-2012, 09:50 AM.

My mom completed the 3 Day a few years ago in Dallas when she was in her early 50's (no typo there). The fund raising was not that big of an issue for the Komen cause. There are many people that are willing to donate for this cause.
She did a lot of training to get ready, and it was still really tough on her. Each day she was walking about 7-10 miles for preparation. The biggest thing that helped her out was finding the correct pair of shoes that fit her perfectly. Each night they had meals and tents for the walkers. There are drink stations set up the entire length of the walk for each day. They did have a team on golf carts to assist with anyone that was really struggling. It was not easy for her, but she still managed to finish it with two reconstructed knees. I have all the respect in the world for her on being able to do it.
It takes a lot of commitment to join the walk and complete it. Make sure you are willing to be completely worn out by the time the race is complete. Every part of your body will be hurting. Eventhough it is walking, don't assume it will be easy. Good luck

Major cudos to her. They have given us a pretty good schedule. We are up to 10 miles a day both days this weekend and 4 miles or 30 minutes of cross training a day in the week. That and I think i will be taking the week off after!

To answer your questions about fundraising. Your fundraising commitment of $2300 does have to be complete by the time of the walk in order to participate. However, we NEVER charge our walkers credit cards. All of our walkers always have the choice to participate or not to participate. That said, some of our walker will choose to self donate if they are close to their fundraising goal and they want to participate. It is their choice and their donation can be spread over 4 months. Our ultimate goal is be able to have all of our participant’s walk and not to have to worry about their fundraising. We are here to help assure that is the case by providing as much support as we possibly can. I am very confident that you will have no problem with your fundraising.
