I watched a "not that great" Mavs team ride some momentum to a title last year. Even watched a sloshed German sing victory songs all Summer!
This series is by no means over, just interesting to see the strategy. If I were the SA coach, I would have fought to the death. But that's just me. No question I'm not qualified to coach on any level. San Antonio has skins. They know exactly what they are doing. I'm sure the Spurs will regroup.
But my earlier thoughts of a "no question" Spurs vs Heat final now seems a bit premature.
Win one more, OKC has something. Lose game 4, pencil in the Spurs who I hope will take down the Heat. Hard.

Touché
No need to panic after this one. Now if we lose game 4, then that's another story.
Thunder played with an unmatched amount of urgency tonight. It was pretty much a do or die

It will be interesting to see how they rebound in Game 4....
One thing is for sure....OKC is dangerous..

Gotta hand it to Brooks, he's caught some heat this series about being inflexible but he made some nice adjustments. They were switching on the screens and with speed and long arms disrupting the passing lanes and disrupting the Spurs normal ball movement. Spurs bigs weren't taking advantage of the switches and exploiting the mismatches...I'm pretty sure they are gonna watch tape and come back with some tweaks in game 4. If Splitter/Bonner don't start executing better I wouldn't be surprised to see Blair get some burn in prime time...his lack of height isn't such a disadvantage when they go small and you beat the switches by aggressively going to the rack with your bigs against the mismatches created by the switches.

The game was outta reach when our 3 sat down
With that being said, I think Pop did the right thing resting the big three for game 4.

Pop mentioned before last night's game, he hoped they lost a game or two so his Team can feel the otherside of this game.....20 wins in a row.....numbers like that are not normal for any NBA Team. Last loss was many moons ago against the Lakers. One must get humbled to take it to new levels......Spurs got humbled last night but, it was expected. OKC at home....after losing 2....they are too good to go down without a single win.....Western Final competition is STOUT this year!
Pop got what he wanted last night.....GET READY BOYS.....they are gonna come back BRUTAL next go round!
Tony Duncan was playing off the paint last night....forced to the left side...taking that inside pass under the glass away from the Spurs for Manu and Tony. Roll forward to the 4th, DeJuan Blair inside stuffed basket after basket with 4 Thunder players hanging off of him. Shaq mentioned....no one on the Spurs bench can play low ball against the big guys like Blair in the paint....last night demonstrated that. Expect to see more of the Dancing Bear covering for Timmy....skipping Splitter entirely.....if the OKC group attempt this again.
Pops saw what he needed to see.....what and watch the adjustments!Last edited by AtTheWall; 06-01-2012, 08:57 AM.

The playoffs (in my limited experience) are about momentum.
Will be interesting to see if the "rest the old guys" strategy pays off.
Clearly the Spurs have waved the white flag tonight.

I've seen bigger comebacks in the playoffs and in fact the Clippers beat Memphis this year in the playoffs at Memphis after being down 24 points with 10 minutes to go in the game.

Gotta play the odds...its a 7-game series. Keep in mind that these aren't 20-year olds running around.
But at least we agree it was the right call. I trust POP

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I'd certainly love to see the Spurs make Lebron say, "we lost in the playoffs not one, not two, not three times..."
I can understand handing another team the momentum if your team is on the ropes but how many times have we seen championship caliber teams (which the Spurs clearly are) make up a 20+ point deficit in a quarter? San Antonio was on a monster roll. That's all I'm saying. It just does not seem like a smart play to put the "hey we really can lose to these guys" mentality in your teams' heads. Sure, they may come out and crush OKC in game 4. We will see. If they do, I'll be the first guy to applaud Pop's greatness.
Either way, you certainly can't argue with his playoff record.

Same here. No matter who wins this game, I am on the "anybody but the Heat" bandwagon ....
The Spurs will have a temporary new #1 fan like most of the Spurs fans did last year during the Mavs/Heat series.
I do remember a few Heat fans though..... There was the "one who shall not be named", TMC50 and a few others I believe. I wonder if they will be Heat fans again this year should it be Spurs-Heat.
