Need some information about hunting Kansas

Guys, I'm looking into the possibility of doing some hunting in Kansas, but i know nothing about it. Is there anyone out there that would be willing to help me out with some information? These are the questions that I have first:

    1. Do you lease land like in Texas?
    2. Do you go thru an outfitter or can you deal with landowners?
    3. Do you lease for season or annually? ( bow, black powder, gun)
    4. What are the permit fees and out of state license charges?
    5. Does anyone have an opening that they want filled?

Thanks ahead of time for any response to these questions, as well as any other information you may be able to offer. I'm not into canned hunts, and perfer fair chase, with bow or gun. I just want to get the ball rolling and take this items off of my bucket list.

    Thanks,
    Jeremy W. Stone

    1) sometimes, but the land up in Kansas is much different to hunt. The only huntable cover is in creek bottoms and river beds. Its hard to lease per acres sometimes. And you cant hunt as many hunters like in texas.
    2) you can they are expensive and most are just farmers trying to make a extra dime and really sometimes not very good guides at all. You may have to just pay a farmer what they call a tresspass fee? That is something you have to do the leg work on.
    3) Either, but you can only get a tag for either gun, bow or muzzleloader as a Non-Res you can only hunt one.
    4) i think they around $360 for tags + $75 hunting license
    5) No I dont. They do have alot of public hunting land in KS but the more tags they let out the more shot up it gets every year.

Another note. Is what buddy's of mine have done up here. Hunt public land but make a point to go to town, Coffee shop, feedmill, church..etc etc. You will come across landowners that are willing to let you hunt (most of time it will involve a litte money). Or they may know someone and give you contact.

Kansas has a lot of public hunting. It is not hunted hard. don,t forget the crop land or grass land the fence rows are the deer highways. you do not need a lot of cover to find a big deer.
