What's there to know about port aransas?

Wife mentioned maybe going there for a long weekend this summer. I don't know much about it. Where to stay? Where to go? What to do? What's it cost, etc...

Gonna be down next week with some friends and the wife. Going to be fishing in surf and possibly some bay fishing while the girls are out on the beach. I will post if anything fun is done

Pretty much it's for fishing, beaching and relaxing. Not much else to do, in Port A anyway. There's some decent eats.
Surf fish, jetty fish, bay fish, party boat fish, private boat deep sea fish or pier fish. Just fish, drink, eat, relax and sleep.

Do a search and you will find dozens of threads on where to stay and where to eat. Plenty of beach and good fishing. Just brace yourself for crowds cause it gets busy during the summer especially on weekends! I will be down there in a few weeks for a long weekend.

What's the big draw down there then? I like to fish but may be hard with a pregnant wife and a 2.5 yr old.

if you are taking kids the only draw is going to be the beach - and it is going to have sea-weed all over it (it's not like beaches elsewhere) - I would not go to Port A with our 5yrs old and 1 yr old unless I was going with family where I had someone to watch the boys a few times so my wife and I could go enjoy other things like the Back Porch Bar and fishing and golf

              It's cheap and easy.

We have been taking my son there for 2/3 weekends a summer since he was a baby. If you take a good sun canopy & hard rake to clear a path to the water you're fine.

I myself like the pool & pool bar at Hotel Galvez for a few dollars more.

Port Royal is the best place on the island. Real nice Clark! Huge resort pool with water slide for the kiddos.

Eat at Trout street for sure! Great food!

Like anywhere on the south texas coast sea weed can be bad.

If you like deep sea fishing go on a party boat out of Dolphin docks. Best $80 you will ever spend. I have caught every thing from snapper, ling, mahi, amberjack, sharks, and alot more. Cheap entertainment for sure!

We take my 4 yr old son, 6 yr old niece and 9 yr old niece every year. They eat it up! Never had a huge problem with the sea weed. Just drive a little and you can find good spots. I've been going since I was 3-4 years old and don't remember ever not liking it because the sea weed.

That nasty old seaweed......floating about 5-10 miles off the beach = OH YEAH!!!!!!

The good thing about Port Aransas.....if you don't like the scene, seaweed, crowds or what ever.....you can point the truck south and cruise to a spot on the sand with no one nearby. Between Port Aransas jetties and the Packery Channel jetties to the south....dozens of miles of beach with most of the folks either at Port Aransas and or Packery Channel. Points in between, nearly no one anywhere.

I prefer FISH PASS Jetties. Near the Mustang Island State Park. Beach road exit 3 gets you in to the North side of that Jetty....no parking fees or pass. At beach exit 3, you can drive miles upon miles to the North toward Port Aransas. Folks simply thin out the further you drive away from the exits....especially in soft sandy sections....drop her in 4x4 and find a spot alone further up.

You can also take the Port Aransas ferry over the the Aransas Pass side....swing north along Aransas Bay and visit Rockport. Everything is close by......Port A to Rockport is an easy cruise with even more things to do there as well.

I'm moving there in 4 days. Although it's only until my house is ready in Hallettsville. We keep the 5th wheel down there every summer and love it. There are quite a few really good places to eat. Corpus is close if you need anything major. We watch most of the Hooks home games during the summer. Only a 30 min drive from the island. It's me, the wife, and our three kidos. 3, 9, and 14 years old. We love it, but we got a little "bay rat" in us.

Also there are some really good drive up wade fishing spots in the area.

Enjoy it while you can guys.

Before long there will be very few PUBLIC beaches they will all be privately owned. They got there foot in the door with the US supreme court ruling this month. It won’t be too long until the major Hotel chains start challenging the courts for their water front piece of the pie. When that happens they will throw up pylons and there will be no more vehicle traffic on OUR once PUBLIC beaches...^^^^ this is why I have not voted for our Govenor in the last two elections he's behind it and supports it and there is alot more state owned land he has tried to snake for his buddies ill just stop there....

I doubt that will ever happen.
