Man I used to HATE reachin for some eggs and gettin a handful of scales!

I grew up in the country.
We had MANY chickens for eggs and meat.
Mother let me "put the chickens to bed" every night (they all followed me to the very large, fenced chicken enclosure, I thought I was a Chicken Whisperer, lol).
But NOW I realize why she never let me gather eggs...and all this time I thought it was because she was afraid I'd break some.
I refused to wear shoes until it was freezing, and I only recall seeing 3 snakes in my entire childhood. But I bet Mother saw some in the chicken house....
I believe I will forgo having chickens when/if we get our small acreage.

Now, going barefoot ALL THE TIME did land me in plenty of chicken poop , but I'll take that all day long over snakes.

Part of having chickens is dealing with the dang chicken snakes

Had one get in the brooder pen one time and eat about 4 chicks the size of a quail, then it could not get out and got its head beat in for eatin the wifes chicks
