EAR TUBES in your kiddos ?

went to E-care last night with my 4 year old for another ear infection. he has had multiple confirmed ear infections that i know of, starting before he was a year old, and i don't know how many he has had in between that we didn't know about. tubes have been recommended to be put in his ears.
i know it has to be a simple, common procedure, but they would still be putting my little man to sleep.

have any of your kids or anyone else you know had this done ? any negatives to it, or has everyone turned out OK ? thanks....

one of mine had three sets and my youngest will most likely need a second. the only downside is they miss a day of school if theyre in it. the whole deal takes about 25 mins from wheeling them into the OR to going to the recovery room. youll worry and pace more than theyre actually in surgery. the upside is no more infections while the tubes are in place. they outgrow them about a yr later and may or may not need them again.

my son is 2 and has about 6 or 7 ear infections already, his doctor has said the same thing. i was told its painful if the tubes fall out. his mother and i are undecided about it.

It's as close to a non-event as it gets as far as surgery goes. Our 8 month old had it done 3 weeks ago. Our oldest had it done when he was 9 months and that was 11 yrs ago. No issues. Our #2 and #3 had adenoids removed - even their procedures where pretty low risk.

I had them when I was young. They fell out after a couple years. I had no problems with them that I have been told or remember.

My twins had constant ear infections from the time they were about 5 months to about 7 months old. We had ear tubes put in, and they haven't had a problem since. Amazing! The surgery was simple and by the afternoon they were back to their playful selves.

Ear tubes are wonderful if you have a kid that is constantly getting ear infections. My son would get another ear infection as soon as he would get off antibiotics. He had 2 sets of tubes and while the tubes are in he never had a ear infection. The do not hurt when they fall out, most of the time they wont even notice it. We did have one removed and they did it in the office and Shane never cried or acted like it hurt. Its been 2 years since he's had tubes and so far he hasnt had another infection. With the second set of tubes the doc removed his adnoids and tonsils.

If your kid is getting constant ear infections go to an ENT

Luckily mine never had to have this done. Had friends whose children did and did not have problems. Just had a friend get theirs lanced and a bunch of goo sucked out. She said it was not pleasant

I'm 30 years old and have had tubes about 5 times or so starting from the time I was a little kid till up until last year and I'm probably going to have to have another set put in. They work great and I'm the only person I know that has had them as many times as I have my son is on his second set but one has fallen out already. They helped tremendously with him and his earaches and we didn't even know the one fell out till he went for a check up so that tells you how "painful" they are when they come out. Now if the doc has to remove them then it is a little uncomfortable and for a kid might be painful but for an adult or older kid not so much.

                      Do

                      it.

Changed my kids' lives, and they're still young (3 and 18 months). The worry leading up to it is 1000 times worse than the actual procedure.

Both my kids had it done with no issues. It helped both of them tremendously.

As someone already said, it's a non event. My son will be three in November and he had constant ear infections and fluid trapped in his ear, his speech was delayed because the doctor said he couldn't recreate what he was hearing because he couldn't hear things correctly. It made sense.

He's had the tubes for about 4-5 months and his speech has taken off, no more ear infections either. I wish we would have done it sooner.

Totally worth it! The reduced number of ear infections was totally worth it!
