These are my first off the vine this year.

Anyone know what's wrong? Inconsistent water maybe??

Too much water? I only water mine every 4 or 5 days. They don't like a lot of water.

I call it holy water. I water on Sunday and Wednesday nights.

Lol, I water when I remember. This is the first year I've cut way back on watering and my garden seems to be doing a lot better. My only problem is the squash bugs that I can't seem to get rid of.

            Have you tried "squashing" them

These are also some of the oldest maters I have on the vine I've been watching. The younger ones arent doing this.

nailed it, too much water makes them grow too fast and split.

Too much water but they will be fine. Lucky you, my tomato garden(47 plants) have been growing awesome but have lately been destroyed by worms. Never had this problem. I am not a happy camper.

A little on the ugly side, but they're fine. I lose a lot of my tomatoes to birds. Mainly a darn Mockingbird. I catch him eating and he flies off and taunts me from a nearby tree limb.

Ok to much water will do it but another question is what type of tomato is it? If it is homestead tomatoes they will split no matter how you water them. There are several types of tomatoes that split as homesteads do.

Better boys aren't really known for spliting. Try watering three time a week instead of two but reduce the watering time by half. This will give the water needed and will still reduce the amount of water by 1/3.
