    Mexico Rept (long read)

Been hunting Mex now for 3 years. 1st year as a guest, past 2 as a paid member. I killed a managment 8 at the end of last season. My standards are not as high as my lease partners. Anything over 140" would be great for me. One of my stands has a sendero about 600 yards long, and I kept seeing bucks cross 500 or so yards down. This past week I decided to make a change. I built a small ground blind about 400 yards down to try and cut them off. As I get into the blind, I look down the sendero and see 4 bucks following a doe straight at me. They are about 350 yards and closeing. I can see that the lead buck is a taker. Confirmed with binos that he is a 140 class 11pt. Definately a buck I would be pleased with. Behind him is a 120 class cull 8pt. I had a shooting stick, but was uncomfortable taking a shot that far with a limited rest. They were closing the distance, so I just simply waited. At about 300 yards I see the 8 enter the brush as if he were trying to cut around the bigger buck. The bigger buck sees this and lays his ears back. He heads for the brush. Shortly thereafter I hear a heck of a fight. Antlers are crashing, brush is breaking. It was neat, until they stepped back out. My
140" 11pt has now broken off everything but a G3 on his right side. He went from a 140 to a 110 in about a minute. I was sick. He walked within 20 yards of me. I could have killed him with a knife. It was a great hunt, the big bucks seem to elude me.

Great story. I had a similar story as well. I had run across a high 150 class 8 pointer with 12+" of G2 11' g3's about two weeks ago on my way back from a morning hunt and he was not real scared due to he was hanging with a lady. I just continued to corn that spot for 3 days. On the forth day I hunted that watering hole and guess what? He had also broke off his right side G2 and G3.
I guess thats why that call it hunting...........

Great story. Too bad you were not able to witness the fight. That would have been something to see.

Keep after them, eventually the stars will align, and a big buck will cross your path within range.

Gotta love Mexico. I would have went into the brush to find the trophy! Just think, he will be bigger next year....

You still have a few weeks left, good luck!

Going to try to spend the last week down there. I'm seeing new bucks on almost every hunt, but the mature bucks I see are just average 8's. I know they are out there, I just hope one of them slips up.

I leaving this friday for Guerrera for some last minute hunting and bringing my guns home on Monday. I have killed 2 culls already, so the only way that I will shoot a deer is if It will put me on the cover of the rolling stone. Good luck to you all!

Nice "culls" no doubt. Good luck and be safe. Hwy 2 was covered with Military this past week. They were taking people out of their vehicles and not only searching the vehicles, but patting down the occupants. That is fine with me because we are very careful about taking questionable stuff to the ranch. Now is not a good time to try and get in that extra ammo.

B-S, they must have rec'd a tip about something. In the 4 yrs I've hunted that area, I've only seen one temp checkpoint where they were searching through everything.
I've met with our rancher and rec'd a very similar answer to our issues that your friend received. Only difference is that rancher actually outright owns most of our ranch.

I got pulled over at the first of season by a hummer with a 50 cal. on top. They searched my truck fairly normal with no issues. I pulled up to let my buddy get checked. They started unloading his truck the inspect his bow case, and that idiot on the fifty cal. pointed that thing at him with his finger rubbing up and down that trigger. I thought that that was very unusual. They were definately not very friendly people. Other than that We have not experienced any issues. They only had military in Guerrera for about two days.
