    Push Mowers

Ok guys, I'm stumped so I'm going to the Greenscreen to make my decision. A year ago I bought a used high end Honda push mower from a friend. After a month of two of using it I had to get a carb job, I understand it happens. Well this year I had to get another carb job. I think this time it was my fault becuase I flipped the mower to the wrong side. Oh well, lesson learned. After that problem was fixed, the self propelled stopped working. Played around with it and got it to work a little, then stopped so I took it in to get fixed to at a repair shop. They replaced the belt and here I went. Halfway through my yard it quits again so back to the repair shop I go. This time they want to replace the tranny for $120 so I go do research and oh my there are some problems with Honda tranny's...

So I've always heard great things about Honda's how they last 20 years, well that may be so, but has quality went to crap now? Did I get a lemon?

So consumer reports still has Honda as #1 with Toro a close second. So what says the Greenscreen?

Looks like you need to try and drop Honda to #2 with some consumer reports of your own...

No experience with them, but I'm watching this one with interest.

Personally, I've owned Honda's in a Go Devil, Weed Eater and still have a lawn Mower and never had a lick of trouble... maybe you got a lemon.

I had a Honda push mower that I got from Home Depot. It lasted two seasons before the engine blew with me doing all the maintenance because it cost so much I wanted it to last a while. I was told by the small engine repair guy that I took it to that the ones you buy from box stores (Home Depot) do not have the same quality as the traditional Hondas. (whatever that means). All I know is that I spent a lot of money on a push mower that turned out to be a piece. I have a Snapper now and it is working great with no problems what so ever.

I am on the second season with my Honda and it has been great so far. The Toro that I did use was just as reliable, just decided to get something different. Pros and Cons with each brand. Sounds like you just got a "Friday" mower.

I've had my Honda for 8 years. No trouble until year 5 when drive went out. I needed the exercise so I never fixed it. I ran gas out and stored it for two years after year 5. it started on the first pull when I dragged it out of storage.

Now I use it as a mini-brush hog around our barn. I mow stuff it was never meant to mow. It's a tank. Never in the shop, yet.

For $120 I'd buy a brand new craftsman with briggs. I am amazed after the whole winter off mine kicked up first pull. Instead of paying big money for rebuilds etc just buy a cheap disposable version.

This has been my gameplan for the last 4 years........it's been a good $140 investment.

Never owned a Honda but worked a lot with them and seemed like my buddy was always doing work on his. Not to say they aren't a good mower. I've owned the same Toro mower for 9 years now and it still starts with one pull. Only work I've done on it is replace the blade.
