Who else has them, and what do you do for the pain? I'm close to the point where I will need surgery and I wear double inserts in my boots. What do y'all do to help ease the pain?

I started wearing the gel heel cup and light stretching and every night I took an ice cube made in one of the old style coffee cups (about 12 oz). Put the ice cube in an aluminum basting pan and roll the part of the heel that hurts back and forth over it until it is all melted. The other thing I did was point my toes while sleeping. While I was doing the ice thing I basically made the sheets so tight I couldn't change the position of my feet when I fell asleep. Whe I would wake up I would stretch out my heel before getting out of bed. I kept doing the ice until one day I realized it was not hurting anymore
I am not a Dr but I just can't think of anything much worse than operating on your heel. Ice and stretch it before getting up in this morning. It probably took a few months. I would also not let my gel pads get worn down. Also you do better with the kind that have the hole cut out of them or cut it out yourself.Last edited by 18ncs; 05-21-2012, 10:40 PM.

I have one that's been killing me for six months now. I'm going to see the doctor sometime this week. I've tried stretching it but my active job and lifestyle keep it aggravating me. I got mine after trying to break in a pair of slip on boots. Back to lace ups.
Turns out the boot was tougher then my foot.

For me it was plantar faciitis that caused the heel spurs. There are a lot of remedies for that, unfortunately, none are quick. Mine took over 6 months to go away. The biggest thing for me was the shoes. I was wearing shoes that had a lot of flex in the sole. Podiatrist recommended shoes or boots that are very stiff from the heel to the ball of the foot, along with high arches.
