I have the extended cab version. Have around 110,000 miles. Been a good truck for the most part. I've had to have some front end work done but from my understanding that's pretty common with chebby front ends.
Ive driven Chevy from the git go. Had a "95 Z71 put 240,000 miles on and loved it. I drive a Chevy 4X4 now though but not Z71 package. I don't think you can go wrong but im a loyal fan of Chevy! And Dr. Pepper!
100% chevy fan.....FWIW Z71 is only a suspension RPO code. As of 2007 with the GMT900 body you can get a 2wd Z71. One thing you will wanna look at is the transfer case. lower passenger side look for a leak. if theres a leak there is likely a hole in the case there. the oil pump rubbs through the case.
Have a 02' 3/4 ton with 325,*** miles on it and drive it daily. any where.

Iirc that's only the np241. That doesn't affect autotrac cases, or any half ton for that matter

O no its all of them even the np236 in my 3qt. The autotrac(np8 rpo) also has the same. Theres a small piece of "sheet metal" that the oil pump rides on and when it breaks the pump vibrates in the case and wears a hole. I have put replacements in all models 1ton-trailblazers. usually a 1/8 or smaller hole.
The only real differnce is the is a clucth pack and output speed sensor on the the NP8. So when TCCM see's rear wheel speed differ from front the encoder motor turns slightly to engae (in auto mode) the clutch pack.
