    Blazer vanes

I am going on a hunt in california for blacktail in august.

currently I am shooting gold tips, 4 inch feathers, and wasp sst heads.

I am going to stick with the arrows and heads but was wandering about changing and trying the blazers. my guide told me to be prepared for a 60 yard shot and I was wandering about drag on feathers versus blazers? I am only shooting about 61 pounds out of an ultratec but will probably turn it up a little and I am thinking of going to a fall away rest.

what kind of combo would you recommend? 3 or 2 inch vanes. any suggestions, pros, and cons to switching from feathers?

Ive never shot feathers but I do shoot the blazers and I love them. I use to shoot normal vanes and the blazers are a lot better in my eyes

Shoot 2 inch Blazers, they are quieter than feathers, will stiffen your arrow slightly, and the actual time-to-target won't change enough that you could measure it. Feathers are faster off the bow, but slow down more downrange.

Rocky nailed it. There are trade offs between feathers and blazers but I shoot blazers due to them being quiet and they steer BHs well. And if your going to hunt out to 60 yds then practice further so 60 will be a chip shot.

          Ryan,

You will love blazer vanes! I switched from 4" feathers to 2 inch blazers 2 years ago and have never looked back. They group much better than feathers and their high profile really helps broadhead flight. I would encourage you to use some type of wrap on the arrow to help with adhesion and put a slight angle on them when you fletch.

Best of luck on your hunt,

I switched from feathers to 2" blazers and I really like the way they fly off my bow. They seem to help with tighter patterns out to 50 and 60 yards.

Blazers are great. You might also contemplate FOBs. Supposedly, they aren't as effected by a cross wind at the longer distances, and are quite accurate.
