Why does that snake not have a belt buckle for a head?

Anyone want a guess? Baled him alive.
That one was a hognose snake.

I'm guessin that copperhead is layin up under whatever it was he was layin next to in the picture.Looks like a rock or a slab of concrete or somethin maybe?

sorry didnt mean to confuse any non readers :0 )

I too skip the reading sometime but sure muddies up the water.

The original snake was obviously a copperhead.....No doubter.....

The snake posted a couple weeks ago titled is this a copperhead was not even though half argued it was

The first snake I posted out of bale and on tire was one I was questioning. Several told me other day copperhead but I didnt argue but knew it wasnt. Rat/Chicken snake also didnt fit IMHO

Then I posted chicken snake/Rate snake with the girls.

            Just so we are clear

I originally thought cotton mouth after last thread... I looked at my TXSNAKE app and dont see any that look right either, but ended up favoring hognose, but hadnt really seen one before

Yours could be a hog nose, but what with the "nose" sort of missin' hard to tell... the coloration of your snake look exactly like the Texas Ratsnake pic on my iPhone app. Only thing I can figure is maybe it's a juvenile what just ate to it looks fat... tail is too long/slender for a moccasin, and coloration pattern ain't right. If I could figger out how to email myself the pic off my iPhone, i'd post it because it looks exactly like your snake WRT pattern. I agree most rat or chicken snakes (both the same snake) are very long for their diameter...

I think since this pic is from next day (snake dead over night under bale of hay also) color is off from whatever was original anyway..

Looked at the snake pics again on my iPhone... I think it's a Western Hog Nose Snake... pattern most closely matches yours and has about the right body portions... the pattern on the Rat Snake matches yours better BUT i think it's too skinny to be your snake...

Southern copperhead. Painful, but potentially unfatal bite. Speaking from experience..
