Finally got to spend three days down at The Falcon and it was all it was cracked up to be!! Stayed in Zapata at sunbridge motel. For all the people who are scared to go down there, dont be. I have been hesitant for awhile and finally made myself go and never felt move safe. So the fishing report!!
4/30/12- first day we went out with a guide, jay greishaw, and it was the worst weather ever. High pressure system and 20 mph winds hammered us. But its Falcon right!! We ended the day with close to 30 fish on rockpiles using c-rigs, jigs, and cranks. The biggest was a 6.5 i caught on a watermelon rage lobster.
5/1/12- second day we went to the same spots but downsized due to the weather and the finicky bite. We caught over 60 fish and quit counting!! it was unreal, we had bruised ribs from setting the hook so much. Biggest for the day was about 4 pounds. no monsters but tons of fish. We flat smoked them on c-rigged chartruse pepper and dirty sanchez colored senko type baits!!
5/2/12- only fished till 1:00pm and my cranking battery wouldnt let us finish the day so we got a early start home. We had close to 30 fish by one though. I had a 7lb 12oz on a citrus shad 6xd and my ol man wacked a 9lb even on the c-rig.
One Thing i noticed about these fish were they were all extremely poor. The fish in the pics im posting should have been at least a 1-2 pounds bigger. I would think they would have been fed back up after the spawn by now.
Considering the weather conditions and the high winds i feel like it was a successful trip. I will be going back in the next two months for sure!! By the way Falcon can get shag nasty with a 20 mph wind. I think my trolling motor was out of the water as much as in the water fighting them big ol rollers. Heres some pics.
