Malta Starthistle question

A friend of mine's place has been over run with starthistle. You know the thistle with the big purple flower? Besides cutting, does anyone know of a "natural" herbiside to wipe this out? She is a huge "enviromentalist" and will not use man-made chemicals for it.

That stuff is the devil and really bad this year. I don't know of any natural herbicides but some goats will eat the purple heads before they go to seed. I use 2,4-d and it kills it within a few days. I don't recommend shredding it after the white seeds appear as it will disperse them everywhere.

Natural herbicide = a garden hoe. Otherwise, 2,4-D, Grazon, etc.
