    Kayak versus Kick Boat?

I'm still trying to decide what might be best for my dad to do some float fishing. We both have kick boats (pontoon boats). They're comfortable to fish out of with upright seats, etc... We would need a shuttle service with those, so we wouldn't have to worry about getting to a take out spot at a certain time (advantage).

But if we didn't have enough current to carry us downstream and needed to paddle, they don't go like a kayak. (disadvantage) We might need to portage some stuff that a kayak could handle too, but that's not too big of a deal.

For those that have floated rivers in both, what are your thoughts?

Kick boats are bad, feet dangling in the water I mean alligators, sharks and piranhas! It's like dinner time just flopping in the water...get a yak!

I have a "Marabu Stelth 12" kayak and it is as stable as a rock. Love to fish out of it and it really is comfortable. They are not cheap, but well worth the money. I would buy another one if I didn't have this one. Good luck.

Depends on the river and the distance you plan on going and how many long holes you will go through. Do you guys have the oars with your kick boats? Even with the oars I would think that a yak would be the best bet.

Never floated in a kick boat but I do have a yak. I can see there being advantages and dis-advantages of both but would think that a kayak would offer more as far as storage and comfort. I love fishing out of mine and goin to build a longer more stable one in the near future. When I got mine they were the cheapest used kayaks I could find. Didn't want to break the bank on something that was gonna sit more than get used and just wanted to try it out to get a feel for it. Now that I've fished it for a year or so I'm hooked and wanting to upgrade and the kids can use these smaller boats. HG
