    Best .22lr for target shooting

Ok GS, I'm moving back to Canada this summer and as a Texas souvenir I'm looking to get a target .22lr rifle.

I know most people will recommend the 10/22 but I am wondering what other options are out there and worth investigating.

    Let me know

Really a 10/22 is the best way to go. Very accurate and tons of aftermarket accessories

a marlin model 60 is the next best thing. you can get one for about 100.00-150.00 used.

For target the 10/22 is going to be the best choice, but for plinking a Henry or Marlin 39a lever is a fun gun to shoot.

Serious 22lr target shooting deems the use of an Anschutz or a Remington 40x if you ask me. A semi auto just wont compete with the bolt guns. I'm sure savage, CZ and others make some great rifles as well.

Personally I'm no fan of the new 10/22s. I'd get a marlin model 60 before the ruger.

Anschutz or CZ make a good .22LR but their a little pricey.

If you're able, shoot the S&W AR15-22. We bought my boy one and that's an accurate little rifle - and fun to shoot.

10/22 are great platforms for making agreat shooting gun, but staying stock there are better guns.

I would take a Marlin 60 over a 10/22 unless you want to spend extra money personalizing it to make it shoot well.

Marlin 39A is a great gun and would be a good choice.

And worth every penny. I had a CZ 452 American that liked every kind of ammo I fed it. Danged unusual for a gun to shoot everything good.

Times 10 on the 40X. I had one years back and that sucker shot Eley 10X better at 100 yards than 99% of the centerfires at the range on any given day.
Another good shooting 22 is the old Kimber Model 82. I've owned several of those through the years and they all shot good.
Cooper also makes a fine .22LR.

I just bought a used CZ 452 American in .22 LR and went to the range Saturday for the initial ammo test. I shot 23 5-shot groups off the bench with 8 different types of ammo, from Federal bulk all the way up (in $$) to Eley Match EPS. The ammo it liked best was S-K Rifle Match--the 3 5-shot groups averaged .17" center to center, and the smallest was .11" center-to-center, about 1/2 the size of a squirrel's eye. I also have a Varmint model in the same rifle that shoots nearly as good. They can be had for around $400 used (the American has been discontinued) but I hear good things about the 455 which replaced it, and it has switch barrels.

Loved my CZ 452. Love my CZ 453 almost as much. Both are not picky. Wish I could make myself turn loose the coin for an Anschutz or one of those pretty 40X.

Will you have problems taking that back into Canada? Their gun law are tough?
