So my check engine light came on. Truck is running fine. Had autozone scan the computer and came back showing nothing wrong. Its got me confused an frustrated. Any ideas on whats causing it? Realy dont want to take it to dealership. Its a ford f-150 with 5.4 V8. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds to reset the computer. If there is a real problem the light will return after a while. It might take 50/60 miles before computer re-reads whatever it thinks is wrong. And a loose/leaking gas cap could kick off a CE light but I would think it would also throw a code. ???
when I doubt, reboot...

I didn't know Autozone had a computer they could check your vehicle with? Do they charge or is it a free service?

WRONG.....it will issue two types of codes, hard codes and soft codes.. Hard codes are the only ones that will show up on a reader..

Even a loose gas cap should throw a code, that would be a leak in the evap system, something like P0440,0442,etc. Get you a cheap handheld scanner and check it yourself. It's good investment for future use(unless they do away with the OBD II system) http://www.amazon.com/U480-CAN-BUS-O...6512218&sr=8-1
