    Check engine light

So my check engine light came on. Truck is running fine. Had autozone scan the computer and came back showing nothing wrong. Its got me confused an frustrated. Any ideas on whats causing it? Realy dont want to take it to dealership. Its a ford f-150 with 5.4 V8. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the light is on it should have spit out a code at Autozone. I have always gone there when one comes on and get the code and google it. Fixed problem myself everytime. Might want to check another AZ or make sure the person doing it knew what they were doing. Had that problem once too

Third word in on the second to last sentence is the problem

Check that your gas cap was on tight. Happens to mine sometimes. It resets after a I tighten in a few hours.

If Autozone didn't do it clear the code and see what happens. My Chevy throws a ghost code about once a year

If it is not throwing a code disconnect the battery connectors then reconnect and see if it clears out the CEL.

I was just kidding. The gas cap would be my guess as well.

Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds to reset the computer. If there is a real problem the light will return after a while. It might take 50/60 miles before computer re-reads whatever it thinks is wrong. And a loose/leaking gas cap could kick off a CE light but I would think it would also throw a code. ???

                    when I doubt, reboot...

Maybe the check engine light needs servicing?

What year is yours? The light on my '05 kicked on earlier this week, and was cranking funny, but after 3 days the light went off and it has returned to normal. Not sure what exactly was going on under the hood.

I didn't know Autozone had a computer they could check your vehicle with? Do they charge or is it a free service?

WRONG.....it will issue two types of codes, hard codes and soft codes.. Hard codes are the only ones that will show up on a reader..

Even a loose gas cap should throw a code, that would be a leak in the evap system, something like P0440,0442,etc. Get you a cheap handheld scanner and check it yourself. It's good investment for future use(unless they do away with the OBD II system) http://www.amazon.com/U480-CAN-BUS-O...6512218&sr=8-1
