Channel. Birds get the eggs on their feathers in one place and they come off somewhere else.

We call them mudcats. If they are green with beady little eyes, I always throw them back, no matter hw slow the day has been. Every time I have ever cooked one, they tasted like, well MUD.

BigThicketBoy was half right, birds get the eggs on their feathers in one place and they come off somewhere else. Its a Mud Cat though. One day when I was just a little kid, I asked the guy that ran his cattle behind us if I could fish in his pond and he kinda snickered a bit and said sure but I don't think you will catch anything. After a couple hours went by he came down to check on me and asked if I had any luck again kinda snickering. That is until I pulled up the basket with about 10 of those suckers in it. He was like wow! I just had this pond dug a few years ago to water the cows with. I never stocked any fish in it at all. Well, I took the basket of fish to the house with me to get my dad to help me clean them. He wouldn't. Made me take them back to the pond and release them. I ask why and he said they have the name Mud Cat for a reason, they taste like dirt. Never tried one myself, I took his word for it.

Had a buddy growing up that had some land in east Texas near Center, and the always called mud cats mau-heads. Not sure why.

Calling mudcats pollywogs must be a Texas thing. Pollywog was another name for a tadpole when/where I was growing up.
