A couple of questions for you bettle (dermistid) growers. Is newspaper good for the bottom layer or should it be plain (no ink) paper in the bottom. Also I might be looking to add to my colony. Does anyone have a small colony they might be willing to sell?

You can use shreaded paper with no problem. I've been using the shreaded stuff from petco as of late. You can get a small package that really expands. It's called gerbel bedding or something like that.

Yes, I'd just be careful if you've had other insects get in. They can bring in mites. My new setup is almost done.
