    New area code

Saw on the news that Travis county and along with surrounding counties will have a 737 area code instead of 512. Why? 512 was south Texas ( corpus ) area code back in the day. Why the change?

Running out of numbers. 817 split many years ago to 817 and 254

Growing up we had 409 in Brenham, now east Texas has it and we got 979. Just signs of population growth in phones. Back in the day at my grandparents in Carmine all I had to dial the last four numbers.

As of 2 years ago you could still do that in Rising Star, dont know if you still can. I still remember the party lines they used to have and how funny it was watching my grandpa get mad at not being able to get the line because of the old lady across the street yippy yapping and then him picking up the phone and hollering at her to get off.

interesting...starting in June of 2013, new numbers in the Austin area will be 737 and we will all get to dial 10 digits....yeah!

All existing 512's they say are able to stay...only way to get a new 512 is if someone that has one coughs one up
