    Planting Common Burmuda?

New home so I planted rye grass to hold us through the winter and hopefully until we got some landscaping finished up.

Now that the rye is dying what is my best next step. Can I just over seed with Common Bermuda? Should I scratch with chain harrow and over seed or do I need to completely till up and start from scratch?

Is there any particular strain of Bermuda I should look for in the Houston area? I have a mix of shaded and full direct sun in my yard.

You need a firm seed bed spread then roll. Bermuda seed only needs to be about 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep. then water in. but not too much PH should be about 6.5 after it starts good hit it with some N

So your saying I need to till everything and start from scratch. Sure was wanting to avoid that.

Lawn doesn't necessarily need to be tilled as much as it needs to be scratched. You can get a tiller and go over the lawn very quickly or you can try and just rent a seeder. I'd recommend a hybrid over going with common bermuda since the commn pretty much heads out weekly.

I always drug the soil, spread the seed and drug again. Used a piece of chain link fence for the drag. Worked for me with common. Of course I made sure rain wasn't far away when I did it.

With a heavy 4x4 or cross tie attached to the end of it to add weight this is a great method.

                Thanks for the link Stan.

I have an 8' x 8' chain harrow I usually drag teeth down then seed and then drag smooth down to cover. I'm going to try this route on most of the yard.
