Not dumb. Thats a good tool that has at least two uses. You can get some mojo on a pipe wrench with a cheater pipe, and also discourage would-be assailants or ex wives with a cheater pipe.

I just thought of a third use. You can bust piñatas with one too if you ever find yourself at a Mexican birthday bash and you didnt come prepared for the festivities.
Pretty much an all around good tool to have.

I've got a lot of tools that are essential to what I do, but it would be hard to narrow it down. I've got woodworking tools, auto tools, metal working tools, etc, and they all serve their purpose.

A good assortment of zip ties are a must also. If duct tape fails they usualy work.

No tool box should be without a good extendable magnet tool for fetching dropped tools or parts... They have saved my butt many times...

If you do any building with wood, like decks, DEER BLINDS, etc, this is good advice. That cordless impact is a lifesaver! I use DeWalt NiCd (I think) at work because that's what the boss has, and he has all of the tools and many batteries, but I'm building my own set, for my uses, of Milwawkee Lithium stuff. My first purchase was the impact driver, it'll drive 4" deck screws so fast if you're not carefull, you'll lose the head as it sucks down into the wood. I've also snapped screws off with it, and my hands and wrists don't get tired like they do with a regular drill.

                          Other than that:

My tool belt, which rides in my truck always, has a good razor knife, a couple of pencils, a speed square, 22 oz Estwing framing hammer, small prybar, a pair of good carpentry gloves, a 25' tape measure, a pocket full of 3" deck screws, and a pocket full of 16 penny nails.

A good (preferably worm drive) skillsaw, a couple of high quality hammers, I like a smooth face 16oz and a checkered face 22 oz framing hammer, both with straight claws, speed square, good razor knife, quality tape measure, marking and layout tools, a welder and grinder, a belt sander and palm sander with various grits of paper for both.

Miter saw, table saw, band saw, jigsaw, air compressor, generator (my welder doubles as generator), framing nail gun and trim nail gun. Airless paint sprayer if you do any large painting jobs.

If you can't tell, I do mostly construction type work, dealing with wood, but welding is a hobby of mine, and when you need a welder, nothing else will do.

A couple of sizes of Channel Locks, Vise Grips, adjustable Crescent wrenches, a couple of sizes of screw drivers (slotted and Phillips) some bailing wire and duct tape and you can fix anything short of the Space Shuttle.

A good set of punches, a hammer set (brass, ballpeen, claw, sledge, etc), all 3 sizes of socket sets and wrenches in both standard and metric. Crowbar, precision screw driver set, nut drivers, hack saw blades to fix stripped flat head screws, good screw driver set...the list never stops
