PWC trailer registration?

Got a Waverunner that I'm getting ready to sale and need to register the trailer. It hasn't been registered in a couple of years and I can't find any of the paper work from last time. I can't find a title for it and not sure if it even has a title. I do have the serial number for it. Can DMV look the serial number and my name up so I can register it? Also the plate is not on it. It got torn off bracket and all last time it was towed.
